What is Energy Therapy & Reiki?

Today many of us are doing the best we can to deal with day-to-day stresses in life.  90% of disease and illness is stress related.  It is important that we carve out time each day to relieve our stress even if for just 15 minutes.  Taking any amount of time each day to just relax helps to restore holistic balance and energy for our mind, body and spirit.  Some find that movement relaxes them through some sort of exercise.  Some need complete physical relaxation by just being still.  Either way these methods utilize Energy.  Everything we do and everything around us responds to and creates some form of energy.  Humans, animals and plants are very receptive to energy, especially positive energy which promotes healing and wellness in all life forms.

There are many Energy Therapies available that work with the “life force” to restore balance and flow of positive energy within the body, mind and spirit.  This universal life force is recognized in many cultures by different names (i.e. Chi, Ki, Prana, Kundalini, Spirit) and it is within all living things. Life force flows within the physical body though pathways called chakras, meridians or nadis.  If one's life force energy is disrupted or low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress.  Energy therapy works to increase the vitality and flow of the life force so that we are more capable of being happy, healthy and centered.

One powerful and non-evasive energy therapy is Reiki (Ray-key).  “Rei” meaning universal, all encompassing, or Spiritual Wisdom and “Ki” is the life force in all living things.  Reiki is a Japanese name however its origins date back farther than the Japanese culture to Sanskrit and Tibet.  Reiki practiced today was rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s.  Reiki is not a religion but is spiritually oriented.  It is used by many  Nuns, Ministers and Priests as a healing modality.

Reiki energy flows through the affected parts of the life force nourishing them with positive energy raising the vibratory level where negative energy is attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and fall away clearing and healing the energy pathways allowing the life force to flow naturally.  Reiki is used for relaxation, healing and releasing of negative emotions and energy.  It is a beneficial treatment for all ages and health conditions.  It compliments all other medical and therapeutic treatments and only serves the highest good.

My personal experiences with Reiki are profound.  I first started receiving Reiki to release stress and to find balance.  I noticed significant improvement after receiving my first treatment.  I felt so calm and at peace within.  After a few treatments I quickly decided that I wanted to become a practitioner if for no other reason than to do the therapy on myself and my loved ones.  This was nearly 3 years ago and ever since I have incorporated Reiki into daily routine.  My health has been outstanding as I have not had so much as a common cold since.  My children often ask for Reiki at bedtime because it relaxes them and helps them feel safe.   I use it in my Holistic Massage Therapy practice to enhance massage sessions.  I have even used Reiki on my pets to calm them and they love it.

No matter what energy therapy you choose, it is recommended that you seek a practitioner who is certified in their modality and has an Art of Healing License.  Energy therapy should never be imposed upon you nor should it cause pain.  It should be a natural, safe and peaceful experience.
